BRNN media workshop successfully concludes in Beijing

The Belt and Road News Network (BRNN) Media Workshop Closing Ceremony was held in Beijing on Saturday. Senior editors and journalists from 46 mainstream media outlets and 26 countries in Latin America and Africa were in attendance.

Hosted by the State Council Information Office of China, the media workshop was organized by the BRNN secretariat and the Communication University of China (CUC).

“The BRNN Media Workshop features a rich and interactive schedule, fruitful and various products, and deepening friendship between China and foreign media,” said Xu Bo, Deputy Director-general of External Relations Department, People's Daily.

Xu stressed that BRNN will continue to carry out more exchange activities to promote mutual learning and pragmatic cooperation among media in foreign countries.

“The workshop has established a good platform for strengthening exchanges and cooperation among news outlets in various countries,” said Jiang Xufan, deputy Party secretary at CUC. “I hope all the participants will know a poly-dimensional, colorful, friendly, and open-minded China by this workshop.”

Andres Flores, a reporter from A24 TV in Argentina, Rebeca Ceciliano, a news coordinator at Extra TV in Costa Rica, Sifiso Mahlangu, head of South Africa's Politics Independent Media, and Austin Maho, editor-in-chief of the Nigeria Pilot, addressed the ceremony.

The closing event screened videos made by the workshop members such as “Record of Visit,” “Diana's View on China,” “New Experience of Face-scanning,” “The Great BRI,” and “How to See Contemporary China.”

The participants shared what they learned and their feelings on the videos they made, expressing a new BRI understanding and sincere wishes for the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

With the theme "New age, new concept, new media, and new technology," the workshop began September 16.

During their two-week visit, participants listened to lectures on China’s development achievements and new media trends, visited People’s Daily and Xinhua News Agency to learn about new media in China and its development of artificial intelligence.

Divided into two teams, the workshop participants went to Shaanxi, Zhejiang, Guizhou and Guangdong provinces for interviews and surveys, experiencing China’s unremitting efforts and fruitful results on poverty alleviation, ecological civilization, big data industry, urban planning, and intellectual property rights.
