Carrie Lam, the chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), posted on Facebook on Saturday suggesting that she would cancel her US visa.

According to her post, the US sanctions imposed on 11 officials including her are "so carelessly executed" that even her address stated in the announcement was wrong.

File photo shows Carrie Lam near Capitol Hill, which has been posted on her Facebook page as she announces she does not "look forward to" visiting the United States.

Lam said that the US government may have used the HKSAR officials' personal data from past visa applications to process the sanctions, suggesting that their human rights protection could have been violated.

"By the way, my visa to the United States is valid until 2026, and since I do not look forward to visiting this country, it looks like I can take the initiative to cancel it", said Lam.
