The Shandong aircraft carrier of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy sailed through the Taiwan Straits on Sunday toward the South China Sea to conduct a training voyage, a Chinese navy spokesperson said on Monday.

Liu Wensheng, a spokesperson for the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy, said the Shandong's transit on Sunday to strengthen combat capability was a normal arrangement made under its annual plan. "We'll continue to arrange similar missions in line with the requirements of our training," Liu added.
