China urges the US to "act cautiously" to avoid inviting damages to the peace and stability across the Taiwan straits, said Ma Xiaoguang, spokesperson for the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office, on Wednesday.

"The Taiwan issue concerns China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and Chinese core interests. Our resolution to uphold the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country are unshakable," Ma said at a regular press conference in response to recent speculations by US media.

Citing sources from several US defense officials, CNN reported in early October that the US Navy's Pacific Fleet has proposed to carry out a series of operations near China's territorial waters in the South China Sea and the Taiwan Strait, aiming to show Beijing its military readiness.
