The UK and China have agreed in top-level exchanges to seek to enhance their relationships in trade, climate change measures and finance.

Following an earlier telephone conversation between China's President Xi Jinping and UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Vice-premier Hu Chunhua talked with the Finance minister Rishi Sunak.

A press release from the Chinese State Council said the two had agreed to make "new progress in practical cooperation."

The UK and China will hold the 11th session of the China-UK Economic and Financial Dialogue next year, the release said.

After a year which has seen tensions between the two countries over Hong Kong and Xinjiang, Hu called on the UK to be ready to seek opportunities and "meet halfway."
