China builds 208 high-level digital workshops, smart factories

China has built 208 high-level digital workshops and smart factories, said Xin Guobin, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) at a video and telephone conference Tuesday.

Over the past 4 years, MIIT and local industry and information departments have jointly established 305 demonstration projects of smart manufacturing that cover 92 industries across the country, attracting investment of over 100 billion yuan ($14.5 billion), Xin introduced.

According to statistics, production efficiency and energy utilization of these projects were up 37.6 and 16.1 percent on average, while their operation cost dropped by 21.2 percent.

In addition, China has preliminarily established a national standard system for smart manufacturing, under which seven national international codes and 215 national codes have been officially issued.

Xin noted that China has also built over 50 influential regional industrial internet platforms, connecting more than 100,000 industrial devices.
