The General Office of the State Council has issued a document to further encourage the development of the cultural industry.

The government should encourage publishing houses to offer books, newspapers, and magazines at prices that match the purchasing capabilities of the public, said the document.

Cheaper shows and tickets of commercial performances and movie screenings, and cheaper online services from Internet culture-service providers should also be encouraged, according to the document.

The document required central and local government funds to invest in the cultural industry in more innovative ways and improve the supporting policies to boost the development of the cultural industry.

Value-added tax on business revenues from the sales of copies, copyright, movie distribution, as well as venues for movies screened in the country's rural regions, will be exempted, said the document.
