China’s Foreign Ministry on Wednesday called for relevant parties to take an objective and rational view of China’s epidemic prevention and control policies.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian’s remark came after World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus described China's “dynamic zero-COVID” policy as “unsustainable.”

Zhao said China hopes people learn more about the facts and do not make irresponsible comments.

Speaking at a daily press briefing, Zhao defended China’s response to COVID-19.

“The policy is not to pursue zero infection, but to contain the epidemic in the shortest possible time at the lowest social cost, so as to safeguard people's lives and health as well as retain the normal order of life to the maximum extent,” he said.
