China has confuted claims by US leaders that "the US has really rebuilt China," Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang said Wednesday during briefing press.

The US claim that it helped China’s achievements is not only a betrayal of the truth, but also logically untenable, Lu said.

The development of any country would ultimately depend on itself. “China owes its tremendous achievements to the correct leadership of the Communist Party of China and the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics, to the country’s efforts in reform and opening up, and to the diligence and wisdom of the Chinese people,” Lu said. “As a great country with 1.4 billion people, China’s development cannot rely on others’ gifts, and no country has the ability to ‘rebuild’ China.”

The trade deficit with US is a result of several factors. “The factors have been comprehensively explained in the white paper ‘The Facts and China's Position on China-US Trade Friction’ released in September. Generally speaking, it was caused by the comparative advantages and international division of labor,” Lu added.

China-US economic and trade cooperation is a win-win relationship. “Trade between the two sides is not a ‘one-way’ path for the US to offer China wealth. Data and analyses have showed that the cooperation is mutually beneficial. Nobody would like to lose one’s money, let alone for more than 20 years,” Lu noted.
