The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has released a revised test method for measuring the breaking force of steel wire ropes.
The revision, which was led by the Shanghai Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, was released on the ISO website Wednesday.
It is the first approved international standard method for mechanical testing of metal materials led by a Chinese quality inspection institute.
It specifies a method of tensile testing to determine the actual breaking force of steel wire ropes.
"The new standard makes many breakthroughs including more test rules added on the environmental protection," said Wu Yiwen, a researcher with the Shanghai Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau.
The previous test for the breaking force of steel wire ropes was released in 1974.
