Chinese Foreign Ministry on Tuesday denounced US Navy's recent exercises in the South China Sea and vowed to continue taking necessary measures to maintain peace and stability in the region.

Wang Wenbin, a spokesperson for the ministry, told the media that the US has frequently dispatched carriers to the South China Sea, and these moves are detrimental to the region's peace and stability.

Wang made the remarks after media reported that two US carrier groups conducted joint exercises in the South China Sea on Tuesday.
