China deplores and firmly opposes that relevant countries rampantly interfered in Hong Kong affairs and China's internal affairs, said Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) spokesperson Geng Shuang.

During a routine MFA press briefing on Tuesday, Geng stressed the violent acts of storming the Legislative Council Complex on July 1 were serious illegal activities which trample on the rule of law and endanger social order. China strongly condemns that, and the central government firmly supports the Hong Kong Special Administration Region government and its police in handling the incident in accordance with law.

"I would like to reiterate here that Hong Kong is a special administration region of China and Hong Kong affairs are purely China's internal affairs," Geng added. "We once again urge relevant countries to exercise caution in its words and deeds, stop in whatever form interfering in Hong Kong affairs and China's domestic affairs, not to send any misleading signals and not to make any wrong moves."
