The Chinese economy will take an overall turn for the better in the coming year as China's epidemic prevention and control enters a new stage, the foreign ministry said on Wednesday.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Wang Wenbin made the remarks at a routine press briefing in Beijing after the National Bureau of Statistics revealed Tuesday China's gross domestic product grew 3 percent in 2022.

"China in 2022, despite headwinds of COVID-19 and floundering world economy, effectively coordinated epidemic prevention and control with economic and social development, intensified macro-control efforts, effectively dealt with the unexpected impact, stabilized the macroeconomic market, and continued to increase the economic aggregate and per capita level," Wang said.

The achievements fully demonstrated the “strong resilience, great potential and vitality of the Chinese economy,” he said, while the "fundamentals of long-term sound growth remain unchanged."

Through improved epidemic prevention and control China's economy would enjoy strong growth “and the dividends of reform and opening-up will continuously be released,” Wang said. “The Chinese economy will take an overall turn for the better in the coming year, achieve greater development and make a greater contribution to the world economy."
