China responded to the sailing of US vessels through the Taiwan Strait at press conferences of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of National Defense.

US military officials confirmed that two US vessels, the destroyer USS Stockdale and oiler USNS Pecos, sailed through the Taiwan Strait on Thursday, which is the third such crossing this year. They called it a “routine” transit.

China has closely followed and knows fully well the whole process of the US warships' sailing through the Taiwan Strait. China has expressed its concerns to the US side on this, said MFA spokesman Gengshuang and MND spokesman Ren Guoqiang.

It must be pointed out that the Taiwan question bears on China's sovereignty and territorial integrity and it is the most important and sensitive issue in China-US relations. China urges the US side to earnestly abide by the one-China principle and the stipulations in the three China-US joint communiqués and prudently and properly handle the Taiwan-related issues, lest it should undermine China-US ties and the peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, said two spokesmen.
