BEIJING, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- China is willing to continue pragmatic cooperation with the new Italian government to achieve win-win results, a foreign ministry spokesperson said at a press briefing Monday.

As announced by the Italian presidential office on Aug. 29, President Sergio Mattarella has mandated the country's former Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte to form a new government.

When asked to make comments, spokesperson Geng Shuang said that China and Italy, bound by traditional friendly ties, are comprehensive strategic partners to each other. "China attaches great importance to developing its relations with Italy," he said.

In recent years, the two countries have carried out fruitful cooperation in areas, such as jointly building the Belt and Road, which has made tangible contributions to their respective economic development and won universal recognition of the two peoples, Geng said.

"China stands ready to work with the new Italian government to continue promoting pragmatic cooperation, so as to achieve win-win results," the spokesperson added.
