China is strongly dissatisfied with and firmly opposes the remarks made by the Canadian foreign minister about China's decision to improve the electoral system of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Chinese Embassy in Canada said the remarks were a gross interference in China's internal affairs.

China urges Canada to immediately stop interfering in China's internal affairs in any form which will only cause further damage to China-Canada relations, the statement said.
