China said Friday it deplores and firmly opposes the British government regularly publishing its so-called semi-annual report on Hong Kong.

“Hong Kong is China's Hong Kong. We ask the British side to face up to reality, respect China's sovereignty, stop issuing relevant reports, and stop meddling in Hong Kong's affairs and China's internal affairs in any way,” said Geng Shuang, the spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, at a media briefing.

Geng said the UK has no sovereignty, no jurisdiction and no right to supervise Hong Kong after the handover. “There is no room for Britain to claim any so-called responsibility over Hong Kong whatsoever,” Geng said, a day after the report’s release.
