China firmly opposes the US using state power to unjustifiably suppress certain Chinese enterprises on trumped-up charges, the foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said on Thursday.

Some US politicians have proposed to further cut Huawei from global supply chains by requiring foreign companies that use US-chipmaking technology and software to obtain a license from the US before selling designated chips to Huawei.

"Why wouldn’t the Chinese government ban the use of 5G chips or 5G chip-powered base stations, smartphones and other smart devices provided by American companies, for cybersecurity reasons?” said Xu Zhijun, Huawei's rotating chairman, at the launch of Huawei’s annual report on Tuesday.

Huawei reported global sales revenue at 858.8 billion yuan ($120 billion) in 2019, a 19 percent gorwth on a yearly basis despite the US government's restrictions.

"Xu's remarks are powerful and reasonable", Hua said. "The Chinese government will never sit idly by while the US continues its technology bullying".
