China is fully aware that US warships crossed the Taiwan Strait on March 24, but has everything under control. China has expressed its concern to the US, Ministry of National Defense spokesperson Ren Guoqiang said on Tuesday at a press conference.

Ren said that the Taiwan issue bears on China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and remains the most important and sensitive issue in China-US relations. 

"We urge the US to earnestly abide by the One-China policy and the three Sino-US joint communiques, and handle the Taiwan-related questions in a prudent manner so as not to damage Sino-US relations and peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits," Ren added. "Chinese People's Liberation Army will always maintain a high degree of alert and has the resolve to safeguard China's sovereignty and territorial integrity."
