China hopes the US will turn words into actions and create conditions for the cooperation in education, said a spokesperson on Monday.

Geng Shuang, a spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made the remarks at a routine press briefing, in response to a published article by the US ambassador to China Terry Branstad on the US welcoming students from China.

“As an important part of people-to-people exchanges between China and the US, the exchange of international students has for a long time effectively promoted the communication and mutual understanding between the two peoples.” Geng said.

US President Donald Trump and senior US officials have repeatedly welcomed Chinese students to study in the US. “We welcome this,” Geng added. “What’s more important is that we hope the US side will turn words into actions, and promote the continuous development of people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two countries.”
