China is gravely concerned about a US prohibition on domestic suppliers selling to Huawei and is closely following developments, the foreign ministry said on Tuesday.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Mao Ning made the remarks at a regular press briefing in Beijing in response to a possible cutting of all ties between US suppliers and Chinese tech giant Huawei with a possible prohibition on US suppliers including Intel and Qualcomm from selling products to Huawei.
"We are firmly against the US moves to overstretch the concept of national security and abuse state power to wantonly hobble Chinese companies," Mao said. "Such a practice is against the principles of a free market economy and international trade rules and also undercuts global confidence in the US business environment. It is pure sci-tech hegemony."
China would "safeguard the legitimate and lawful rights and interests of Chinese companies," she said.
