China expressed strong dissatisfaction and lodged solemn representations over a US defense act because of negative China-related provisions, and urged the US not to jeopardize bilateral cooperation in important fields, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Monday.

The US National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2020 was approved by the US Senate last Tuesday and signed into law by President Donald Trump last Friday.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang at a routine news briefing said that the act contains several propositions aimed at China including the military and security developments in China, issues related to Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Xinjiang, and the prohibition of purchasing Chinese products.

“We urge the US to discard its Cold War mentality and ideological prejudice and stop the implementation of the negative China-related provisions,” Geng said.
