China pleased to see, support DPRK and ROK maintain contact: MFA

As a close neighbor of the Korean Peninsula, China is pleased to see and support the north and south sides of the peninsula maintain contact and dialogue, implementing the Panmunjom Declaration and promoting reconciliation and cooperation, said Geng Shuang, the spokesperson of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).

“This is in line with the common interests of both sides and the region, and is also the common expectation of the international community,” said Geng.

“We look forward to the meeting between the leaders of the DPRK (the Democratic People's Republic of Korea) and the ROK (the Republic of Korea) in Pyongyang going smoothly and achieving positive results. I believe this will help promote the denuclearization of the Peninsula and the political settlement of the Korean Peninsula issue,” said Geng.

 “China will continue to support the two sides of the peninsula to improve ties and make their own efforts and contributions to the long-term stability of the peninsula and Northeast Asia,” said Geng at the regular press conference on Tuesday.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in arrived in the North Korean capital of Pyongyang and met with Kim Jong-un, Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of North Korea, on Tuesday.
