China has been monitoring new coronavirus-related pneumonia cases and keeping close contact with relevant countries and regions, said a spokesperson in Beijing, pledging to take all-out efforts to prevent the virus from further spreading.

“China has been taking measures to actively deal with the situation, formulate a strict prevention and control plan to treat patients,” said Geng Shuang, spokesman with foreign ministry, when asked about the new form of viral pneumonia that broke out in Wuhan, Central China’s Hubei Province.

Geng also stressed China’s responsibility to timely report the epidemic situation to and keep close contact with the HKSAR, Macao SAR, the island of Taiwan and relevant nations and regions of the World Health Organization (WHO). 

“China immediately shared the genetic sequence information of the new viral pneumonia to the WHO, and kept close contact with all parties through bilateral and multilateral channels after receiving notifications of related cases,” Geng added. “China welcomes relevant information through official channels if other countries also find suspected cases in order to promote joint prevention and control.”
