China provides 31.5-mln-USD-grant to Jordan on road construction

AMMAN, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- Jordan and China signed on Sunday a grant of 31.5 million US dollars to finance a major infrastructure project in the kingdom.

Under the deal, China will provide the grant for implementing a project to expand and rehabilitate Al-Salt-Arda highway, according to a statement by Jordanian Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation.

The deal was signed by Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Mary Kawar and China's Ambassador to Jordan Pan Weifang.

The minister stressed on the importance of the project to Jordan, adding that it is part of China's continued support to Jordan.

She added that the design and implementation will be carried out by China, adding that the project will help enhance services in various sectors such as tourism and agriculture.

The minister voiced appreciation for China's continued support to Jordan in various areas, which helps the country face increasing challenges.

The Chinese ambassador in Amman voiced his country's commitment to continue supporting the Jordanian government with various technical and financial projects and enhance ties in various aspects.

He added that China is a key supporter to Jordan's development and is implementing several projects and investment in various sectors such as health, education, energy, ICT and infrastructure.

Since 1999 to 2016, China had provided loans and grants to Jordan valued at 225.7 million US dollars.
