China regrets the US decision to reimpose sanctions on Iran decision, and noticed the international community generally opposes unilateral sanctions and "long arm jurisdiction," a Chinese official told a regular media briefing on Monday.

China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said that the comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue is a multilateral agreement approved by the UN Security Council and should be fully and effectively implemented. This is conducive to maintaining the international nuclear non-proliferation regime and peace and stability in the Middle East, in line with the common interests of the international community.

“Despite the great changes in the situation in the past six months, all involved parties to the comprehensive agreement have always been responsible for continuing to implement comprehensive agreements, maintaining normal economic and trade cooperation with Iran while receiving broad support from the international community,” Hua said.

We noticed that Iran has fulfilled its obligations in the nuclear field so far. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has confirmed it 12 consecutive times. China appreciates the efforts of Iran, Hua noted.

Under the current situation, we hope that all parties concerned can proceed from the overall and long-term perspective, fulfill their respective responsibilities and obligations, and stand on the right side of history. China will continue to uphold a fair, objective and responsible attitude and continue to make unremitting efforts to maintain comprehensive agreements, while also firmly safeguarding its legitimate rights and interests.

This is the second batch of unilateral sanctions against Iran after the US withdrew from the comprehensive agreement.
