BEIJING, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- China on Friday voiced strong dissatisfaction with and firm opposition to European Parliament's decision to award Ilham Tohti the so-called "Sakharov Prize," saying the decision grossly interfered in China's internal affairs under the guise of "human rights."

You Wenze, spokesperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People's Congress, said Ilham Tohti had engaged in criminal activities of splitting the country and incited violence and terrorism. There was undeniable evidence of his criminal acts and it is entirely within China's judicial sovereignty to sentence him in accordance with the law.

The European Parliament's decision to award such a person is an act of connivance for radicalism and terrorism, fully exposing the hypocrisy and double standards of the European Parliament on human rights, You said.

The spokesperson stressed that mutual respect, fairness and justice, and win-win cooperation are the way for the international community to get along, and China actively supports equal dialogue between different social systems, ideologies and cultural traditions.

However, China will never tolerate any political attempt to interfere in its internal affairs with smears or pressure, said You, adding that China urges some persons in the European Parliament to face up to the facts and not do anything that will harm the healthy development of China-EU relations.
