China resolutely opposes a US report on military and security developments involving China, said Ren Guoqiang, spokesperson for China’s Ministry of National Defense (MND).

The US Department of Defense released its 2019 Report on Military and Security Developments in China on May 3. China’s MND spokesperson Ren made a statement regarding this.

Here is what Ren said in the statement:

The report issued by the US Department of Defense confounds right with wrong by disregarding facts, it distorts China's strategic intentions, makes unwarranted comments on China’s normal defense and army building and points fingers at China’s legitimate behavior to safeguard sovereignty and security interests.

The Chinese military expresses firm opposition to this and has made solemn representations to the US.

China adheres to peaceful development and a defense policy that is defensive in nature. China does not engage in military expansion or seek a sphere of influence. We have always been a contributor to world peace, global development and international order.

The Chinese military is committed to providing more public safety products to the international community. The development of China's military strength is the development and growth of the world's force for peace. This is a fact that is obvious to all.

Taiwan is an inseparable part of China's territory. China's reunification cause must be realized and will certainly be realized. We urge the US to abide by the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiques and prudently and properly handle issues related to Taiwan. The Chinese military has a firm will, full confidence and sufficient capacity to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity and safeguard cross-Straits peace and stability.

China’s position on maritime issues is consistent and clear-cut. China is committed to peacefully resolving disputes through direct negotiations with relevant countries. Facts have proved that countries in the region have the confidence and wisdom to overcome differences, maintain peace and promote prosperity. On the other hand, the US said that it is necessary to maintain peace and stability, but what it actually does is to continuously strengthen the frontier military presence and frequently send ships to the South China Sea to prosecute, seriously damaging the security interests of coastal countries and undermine regional peace and stability.

The US has issued the so-called "Report on Military and Security Developments in China" for many years, damaging China-US mutual trust and poisoning the development atmosphere of the relations between the two countries and the two militaries.

Justice is in the voice of the people. We urge that the US view China's national defense and army building objectively and rationally, stop publishing irrelevant reports, and take practical actions to maintain the stable relations between the two militaries and China-US relations.
