The data was released by Liu Kun, the Minister of Finance, at the recent National People's Congress.

State-owned assets of public institutions committed to people's well-being have grown remarkably. Assets covering infrastructure, education, medical care reached 23.4 trillion yuan.

By the end of 2018, education conditions have been improved significantly. The total coverage of schools nationwide hits 3.57 billion square meters, increasing by 30.3 percent since 2012. Health care assets have also grown rapidly. Health care facilities have been equipped with 8.4 million beds for patients. Museums across the country have collected 37.54 million pieces of cultural relics, an increase of 62 percent since 2012. More than 12 million houses are scheduled to be built under the affordable housing scheme this year.

The administrative state-owned assets have increased significantly through hard work in the past 70 years, Liu said. In the future, more measures should be taken to increase the utilization of low-efficient or dormant assets and cut waste of state-owned assets, he added.
