The China-Russia joint naval exercises entered day two in east China’s Qingdao city on Tuesday.

Tuesday’s exercise held contests between the two countries' naval marine contingents. Contestants on both sides took part in competitions including riflery, sniping and steeplechase.

Codenamed “Joint Sea-2019”, the drills focus on joint sea defense and don’t target any third party, said a Chinese defense spokesman earlier. The two countries expected the exercise will provide opportunities for mutual learning and exchanges.

The "Joint Sea-2019" exercise runs from April 29 to May 4. Two submarines, 13 surface ships, as well as fixed-wing airplanes, helicopters and marines, will participate in the exercises.
