China's air, water quality both improved in 2020

China has achieved improvements in both water and air quality in 2020, according to data released by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment on Friday.

The ratio of surface water with good quality from 1,940 sites across the country reached 83.4 percent, up 8.5 percentage points over 2019.

The percentage of days with good air quality was 87 percent in 337 cities, up 5 percentage points year-on-year. The average concentration of PM2.5 air pollution was 33 micrograms per cubic meter, down 8.3 percent over 2019.
