China's correct and effective strategies toward the infectious disease, which transmits swiftly and has no vaccine to prevent or specific medicine to cure, have controlled the spread of the epidemic and saved hundreds of thousands of lives, said Liang Wannian, head of the Chinese expert panel.

The joint inspection team was impressed by the flexible control and prevention measures taken in accordance with different situations of the epidemic, Liang added.

"We implement flexible and localized measures based on the scientific evidence and the risk evaluation results. Time has proved that the targeted and practical measures are effective," Liang said.

The notable effects of non-pharmacological interventions owe to both authorities and common people's participation, according to the joint team.

"The Chinese experience is the combination of classic prevention methods, advantage of socialist system, the participation by all people and the use of advanced technologies," Liang said.

The joint team of 25 experts visited designated hospitals for novel coronavirus, makeshift hospitals, communities and institutions of disease control and prevention during the nine-day field investigations in China, which started from Feb 16 and went to Beijing, Hubei, Guangdong and Sichuan.

Liang said a report of the joint inspection will be released soon.
