China’s total express delivery volume surpassed 40 billion pieces last year, accounting for 45 percent of the world's total, according to the State Post Bureau.

This means China has led the world in express delivery volume for 4 consecutive years.

The business volume of the country's postal service last year totaled 976.4 billion yuan ($141 billion), and the business income reached 662.3 billion yuan, increasing by 32 percent and 23 percent respectively over 2016, said Ma Junsheng, head of China's State Post Bureau, in a speech to the 49th World Post Day that was celebrated Tuesday.

A total of seven postal service providers have reorganized and gone public, supporting an e-commerce retail sales volume of 5 trillion yuan, and directly creating 200,000 jobs, Ma said.
