China’s Foreign Ministry slammed remarks made by Taiwan leader Tsai Ing-wen in the United States on Monday.

“Tsai Ing-wen wildly talked about the cross-straits relations and the ‘one country, two systems’ principle during her stopover in New York, but I will contain myself as it's not a foreign affairs issue,” said spokesman Geng Shuang at a regular press briefing.

“The one-China principle has always been the common consensus of the international community. Yet Tsai Ing-wen has misjudged the situation and spoke dishonestly for sympathy to seek space for independence,” said Geng. “However, everyone can see through her scheme."

Geng added, “The way that she tried to court and slavishly depend on foreign support is undignified and doomed to fail.”
