China's GDP increased by 174 times from 1952 to 2018: NDRC

China’s GDP has jumped from 67.91 billion yuan in 1952 to 90.03 trillion yuan in 2018, an increase of 174 times. Meanwhile, the per capita GDP has increased from 119 yuan to 64,600 yuan, 70 times higher, China’s top economic planner said on Tuesday at a press conference.

Ning Jizhe, vice chairman of China’s National Development and Reform Commission and Commissioner of National Bureau of Statistics, announced the number at the first press conference held by the Press Center for the Celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China on Tuesday in Beijing.

"China's comprehensive national strength, social productivity, and people's living standards have increased dramatically," Ning said.

At present, China has become the world's second largest economy, the largest country in goods trade and foreign exchange reserve, the second largest country in service trade and using foreign trade and the country with the second largest foreign investment.

In 2018, the per capita disposable income of Chinese residents increased by 59.2 times compared with that of 1949, and the per capita consumption expenditure of residents increased by 28.5 times compared with that of 1956.

By the end of 2018, China's railways have a mileage of 132,000 kilometers, ranking second in the world, in which 30,000 kilometers are high-speed railways, ranking first in the world. The mileage of highways is 4.85 million kilometers, including 143,000 kilometers of highways, ranking first in the world.

Ning said that China adheres to the principles of multilateralism and free trade and actively participates in the activities of international organizations including the United Nations. The Belt and Road Initiative that was proposed by China has received positive responses from more than 160 countries and international organizations.
