China's medical body condemns attack after female doctor stabbed to death in Beijing

On Wednesday, China's Medical Doctor Association strongly condemned the fatal attack of a doctor in a hospital in Beijing.

Yang Wen, a female doctor at Beijing's Civil Aviation General Hospital was stabbed in the neck during work by a man at around 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday. She succumbed to injuries at 00:50 a.m. Wednesday.

"We're beyond anger over the attack on doctors. We strongly condemned the outrage and are deeply sorry over the death of doctor Yang Wen," the association said in a statement, also calling for concrete protection for medical staff.

Also on Wednesday, the Beijing Municipal Health Commission also denounced the "extreme act" and urged for justice.

The male suspect was detained by the police on Tuesday.

He was reportedly a family member of a 95-year-old patient who received emergency treatment at the hospital early Tuesday morning, according to media reports.
