China's Foreign Ministry said China's policy towards the United States has not changed and urged the U.S. to stop attacking China and act as a responsible major country.

At Friday's regular press conference, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying overviewed the Sino-U.S. relationship by addressing concerns regarding the future development of the relationship between the world's first and second largest economy.

Hua said that China has no intention to challenge or replace the U.S. and is willing to nurture the Sino-U.S. relationship with sincerity and kindness.

"What China cares about is improving Chinese people's wellbeing," Hua said, adding that the steady development of the bilateral relationship not only is in line with the fundamental interests of both citizens, but also needed to maintain world peace and stability.

Hua said that, as some U.S. experts have pointed out, China is striving to halt the worsening of diplomatic ties, and meanwhile the U.S. is aggregating the two countries

The remarks were also made as responding to several U.S. officials' ramped-up comments on China, mainly from Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Attorney General William Barr.

Hua said that some people from the U.S. side are sparing no efforts to portray China as an enemy by politicizing cultural exchanges and using attacks on China as the panacea for resolving problems of its domestic politics.

This kind of short-sighted strategy is causing harm to the U.S. and the world, the spokesperson said, as the U.S. now is the country worst hit by the COVID-19 outbreak while being the country that has the most advanced medical treatment system and resources.

Hua also responded to recent reports saying that U.S. could be slapping visa restrictions over members of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and their families. If it's true, "that would mean the U.S. is standing against the 1.4 billion Chinese people," she said.

The White House didn't verify the report but said that all options regarding China have not been ruled out.
