Chinese air force activities over the South China Sea were routine training exercises, targeting no specific country, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin stressed on Wednesday.

Malaysia on Tuesday complained about Chinese military aircraft flying over the South China Sea. Wang at a regular press conference dismissed the concern, saying the Chinese air force strictly abides by the provisions of international law without violating the airspace of other countries.

He added the Chinese side has communicated with the Malaysian side in this regard.

Earlier, a spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Kuala Lumpur responded that according to relevant international law, Chinese military aircraft enjoy the freedom of overflight in the relevant airspace.

"China and Malaysia are friendly neighbors, and China is willing to continue bilateral friendly consultations with Malaysia to jointly maintain regional peace and stability," the embassy's spokesperson said.
