China is aiming an pre-school enrollment rate of 85 percent by 2020, with public kindergartens accounting for more than 80 percent of all kindergartens, the education minister said.

Chen Baosheng also said that China will work on easing the overwhelming homework faced by students, stressing that when the burden on students in school is alleviated, more attention would be focused on the increasing pressure on students after school.

Our government is working to make senior secondary education universal. The enrollment rate of senior secondary education will rise to 90 percent by 2020, and that of higher education will reach 50 percent, Chen said.

He likewise highlighted the need to enhance the quality of teaching staff to improve education and train qualified students. Related educational policies should be made to stimulate the enthusiasm of teachers, he added.
