China launched Gaofen-6, a new remote sensing Earth observation satellite on Saturday to be used mainly for agricultural resource monitoring, research and disaster management.

Gaofen-6 took off on Long March-2D rocket at 12:13 pm from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center, one of China’s major launch sites. A scientific experiment satellite Luojia-1 was sent into the orbit with Gaofen-6 on the same rocket.

The mission marks the 276th launch of the Long March rocket series.
