China on Thursday slammed British foreign secretary Dominic Raab for smearing Hong Kong’s national security law on his Twitter account.

The remarks were made by a spokesperson of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong after Raab accused China of using national security law “to dismantle civil society and stifle political dissent.”

Raab’s tweet referred to the arrest of four organizers from the Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements in China after the organization refused to submit information about its finances, membership and activities in compliance with the national security law.

Some Western politicians have revealed their malicious intentions by ignoring facts and viewing the national security law as an eyesore, said the spokesperson.

“China urges these politicians to stop interfering in Hong Kong affairs and China’s internal affairs in any form,” said the spokesperson. “Otherwise the Chinese people will hit back hard.”
