China on Thursday slammed the US for defaming its anti-corruption campaign, after the US Justice Department filed charges against eight people for their role in the Fox Hunt operation.

Wang Wenbin, spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, urged US authorities to correct their misdeed, stressing China’s cross-border action against fugitives strictly follows international laws and norms.

Wang also called on the US to fulfill its obligations under international anti-corruption protocols and to stop serving as a “haven” for fugitives.

China in 2014 launched the Fox Hunt campaign, which targets economic suspects and corrupt Party members and government officials who have fled overseas.
