China on Monday condemned the US intervention in Sweden’s 5G construction to exclude the Chinese company Huawei, saying that “coercive US diplomacy” was unjustifiable.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Hua Chunying made the remarks at a press briefing concerning a Swedish newspaper report that the US was pressuring Sweden to exclude Huawei in its 5G construction.

“I have also seen relevant reports,” Hua said. “This report proves once again that it is the US that is engaged in the diplomacy of coercion and intimidation around the world through threats and inducements.”

China was a victim of “coercive US diplomacy,” Hua said.

The US should realize that bullying and suppression could not stop the development of Chinese high-tech companies, she said. Nor could the US maintain its monopoly.

“As State Councilor Wang Yi pointed out in a recent interview, the most sustainable way to keep ahead is to continuously self-improve, not to impede the development of other countries,”she said.

Hua hoped that relevant countries could provide a just, fair, open, transparent and non-discriminatory business environment for the normal business cooperation of relevant enterprises.
