China spends 561.8 bln yuan to help people in need since 2016

BEIJING, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- China has allocated 561.8 billion yuan (about 80 billion US dollars) as subsidy funds to help people in need from 2016 to 2019, the Ministry of Civil Affairs said in a report on Wednesday.

The funds were used to help the people in extreme poverty, the orphans, the homeless, the beggars, among others, said the the report on China's social assistance work.

Li Jiheng, the minister of civil affairs, read the report to the National People's Congress Standing Committee for deliberation at its ongoing bimonthly session which runs from Dec. 23 to 28.

The report pointed out that China has basically established a social assistance system and the advantages of the system are increasingly evident.
