Chinese Foreign Ministry on Friday refuted a US intelligence official's labeling of China as the biggest threat to the US, adding that the biggest threat to the US is not others, but itself.

John Ratcliffe, the director of US national intelligence, said in a recent opinion article in the Wall Street Journal that China posed "the greatest threat to America today, and the greatest threat to democracy and freedom worldwide since World War II".
Hua Chunying, Foreign Ministry spokesperson, said the article had a sensational title without any concrete proof. Ratcliffe kept repeating the lies and rumors, sparing no effort to slander and discredit China so as to continue selling the so-called China threat theory. "I think this is merely another hodgepodge of lies cooked up by the US government agencies," she added.
