China says it will have to take necessary countermeasures if the US goes ahead with plans to raise tariffs on Chinese imports.

In a statement released Wednesday, a spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce says the United States intends to raise tariffs from 10% to 25% on $200 billion worth of Chinese imports. The spokesperson says escalating trade frictions is not in the interests of the two peoples and the people of the world and China deeply regrets this. If the US tariff measures are implemented, China will have to take necessary countermeasures.
