China opposes maximum pressure from the US, calling on all parties to ease the situation in the Middle East, said Geng Shuang, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday.

"The peace and stability in the Middle East is vital to the entire world. No one wants the situation to further deteriorate", Geng said.

"Power politics is not welcome and won't last long", Geng said. "The military risk-taking behavior of the US has violated the basic norms of international relations and inflamed regional tensions."

China always opposes the use of force. Military action is no answer to it and maximum pressure is doomed to fail, said the spokesperson.

“China urges all parties to calm down to stop the situation in the Middle East from further deteriorating, and return as soon as possible to the right track of  dialogue and consultation", according to Geng.
