China urged the immediate release of Meng Wanzhou after the extradition trial of Huawei’s Chief Financial Officer was held on Monday local time in Canada.

"The Chinese government remains unchanged in its resolve to uphold the legitimate interests of Chinese citizens, " Geng Shuang said at a press conference on Monday. “We urge the Canadian side to correct its mistake by releasing Meng Wanzhou and make sure of her safe return to China.”

"The US and Canada's abuse of the extradition treaty is a political move against China," he said. "The case also severely infringed on the legitimate interests of Chinese citizens.”

Geng reiterated that China's position on Meng's case has always been clear, and China has been in close contact with the Canadian government for the proper handling of Meng's case.
