China urged the US not to use vaccine assistance to engage in political manipulation and interfere in China's internal affairs, said the spokesperson of China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) on Monday.
Zhao Lijian made the remarks during a routine press briefing on the recent arrival of 2.5 million doses of Modena vaccines in Taipei.
The mainland has repeatedly expressed its willingness to provide assistance to Taiwan compatriots in quickly defeating the COVID-19 epidemic.
But in the face of the goodwill of the mainland and surging public expectations in Taiwan for COVID-19 vaccines from the mainland, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authority did everything in their power to block the vaccines from the mainland into the island, and even spread lies that the mainland "intervened" to block the island's purchase of COVID-19 vaccines, said Zhao.
For their own political interests, the DPP authority continues to engage in political manipulation in the fight against the epidemic, which shows disregard for the lives and health of Taiwan compatriots and violates the basic humanitarian spirit, Zhao added.
"China always supports anti-epidemic cooperation and has made positive efforts to this end," he said.
