China urges the US to abide by the one-China policy and the three Sino-US Joint Communiques, after Washington sent two warships through the Taiwan Strait on Wednesday.

"China has closely observed the situation of US warships passing through the Taiwan Strait, and has voiced its concerns to the US," China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang told a regular news briefing on Thursday.

The Taiwan issue is the most important and sensitive part of China-US relations, Lu said, urging Washington to uphold and respect the agreed upon one-China policy and the three Sino-US joint communiques.

"The US should cautiously handle Taiwan-related issues, to avoid any harm to bilateral ties, and to maintain regional peace and stability," Lu said.
